An artist or a Star – what really attracts people?

The idea for this topic arrived when i was writing on Phonogram  and its role in the “modern music industry, because this new information technology created a possibility to become a “musician” almost for all comers. That wasn’t acceptable in old times when only really talented people could perform on the big stages without any sound accelerators (like microphones) and magic phonogram. What we see today is that the conditions of becoming a “musician” are changed – no more is needed great talent, other resources are getting more value”. Further i said that the main point, actually, is that people no longer strive to become an old-fashioned “musician”, but more fascinated with the new stylish activity of being a Star! And this circumstance does really make sense, because due to this fact we see what a big number of people today are dreaming to enter Show business without real intention to it…

I think that the most vivid example is Super Star KZ, which has become an obsession of the Kazakhstani youth. But I’m not against of this “movement of talents”, because I find this competition very funny, especially on the first selective stages. I have an impression that many people go there just for laugh  And THANKS them very much, because it’s even more comic than many other humorous programs! But this would be OK if all participants were so easygoing and didn’t take too close to heart sometimes very harsh critics and loss, because I think that here is the heart of the problem – show business has created somewhat a cult of being a singer, so many people are getting caught in an endless loop of their fictitious dreamlike desire, which seems to be the core goal of the life (for many, if to believe what was shown on the screen…).

Thus, if to think seriously on the modern meaning of the profession of Artist, or musician, then it seems to have become a dreamwork for many people who associate this “glamorous” life with happiness, success, beauty, fame, money, love and all such stuff. Firstly, this is only a vague stereotype as we know a lot of examples when top-list pop-stars became tired and exhausted with their lives “for show”. And secondly, every person that achieved success and became so-called star went through a long thorny path and a lot of work. Many guys think that to be an artist is so cool, but little who think of the process of climbing on the top. We see clips and movies with beautiful and happy faces, “perfect” people that enjoy life, but don’t consider the backstage. A person doesn’t become a Star immediately – primarily it has to become an Artist. So, the idea I was pursuing from the very beginning of this “branchy” talk is that every person should look deeply inside his heart in order to define his true desires or may be even mission (?) and choose his own path. I wish everybody to be independent and listen to his own soul (that is – to love yourself J), so neither an illusory fashion nor visual attractiveness could put you off from the way and make you feel hurt!

P.S. Excuse my subjectivity… I’ll be glad to hear some other views and opinions!
